Most people never think about what it takes to fly — they just run, leap, and lift. But for someone living with a spinal cord injury or physical limitation, flying can feel like a dream that passed them by.
At Texas Paramotor, we’re here to bring that dream back.
Through our Sky Therapy program in partnership with Project Airtime, we specialize in offering adaptive tandem paramotor flights to paraplegic, quadriplegic, and other physically or cognitively challenged individuals — at no cost. And we do it with precision, care, and deep respect.
Here’s how we make it possible.
Step 1: The Right Gear — Built for Accessibility
Standard paramotors aren’t designed with wheelchairs in mind — but adaptive tandem gear is. We use specially configured paramotor trikes and tandem harness systems designed for comfort, stability, and safety.
These setups allow:
- A fully secured passenger seat in front of the pilot
- Custom harnesses and padding for spinal support
- Adjusted angles for head, neck, and leg positioning
- Accessibility loading and offloading on flat terrain
- Shock absorption on landing
We tailor each flight to the individual. That starts with the gear — and continues with the people.
Step 2: Ground Training and Personalized Support
Before we even touch the throttle, we talk. We meet every participant where they are — physically, emotionally, and logistically.
Our pre-flight routine includes:
- An overview of the flight from start to finish
- A clear explanation of how communication will work in the air
- Demonstrations of posture, seating, and adjustments
- A full team assisting with strapping in, helmet fitting, and passenger comfort
This isn’t just about logistics — it’s about building confidence. We take our time, answer every question, and ensure the flyer feels like they’re part of the team — because they are.
Step 3: The Flight — Freedom, Not Fear
Once we’re ready, our experienced tandem pilot (usually Ryan or Paul) takes the passenger to the air with calm, controlled progression.
Here’s what happens:
- The trike accelerates gently down the field
- The glider lifts — no jolts, no drama
- The passenger feels the lift and ease of ascent
- Mid-air, the pilot may hand over the toggles, depending on the flyer’s ability
- They soar, turn, float — safely, freely
Every movement is monitored. Every variable, from wind to wing control, is managed by the pilot. The passenger can simply enjoy — or engage — as much as they wish.
“When you can give them the toggles and they can fly around and feel the air in their face and go wherever they want, it’s a pretty good thing to be able to offer.”
— Ryan Glowka
Step 4: Landing — With Support Waiting
When it’s time to come back down, our team is already in position.
We use smooth, gliding approaches and well-marked landing areas, with:
- Ground team assistance
- Clear post-landing transitions
- Water, shade, and recovery time built into every plan
We don’t rush people off the field. Many just want to sit and be — because once you’ve flown after a lifetime on the ground, you need a moment to take it all in.
Who This Is For
You don’t need a referral. You don’t need to meet some narrow criteria.
Sky Therapy is open to:
- Paraplegic and quadriplegic individuals
- Amputees
- Individuals with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, or other conditions
- People on the autism spectrum
- Anyone who could benefit from a moment of peace, joy, and perspective
“Quadriplegics, paraplegics are our specialty, but anyone who deserves a good flight — we’re happy to take them in the air and we can figure out a way to make it happen.”
— Ryan Glowka
What It Costs
Nothing.
Sky Therapy is completely free for all flyers and their families, made possible by the generosity of volunteers and the mission of Project Airtime.
There are no hidden fees, no sponsorship expectations, no strings.
Just air, and the people who believe in sharing it.
